About your canvas art

The printing technique we use is referred to as Giclee (G-clay) print. The designs are printed using a very large, high definition ink jet printer and as a result the colour output is exceptional. They are bright, bold and the blacks are really, really deep. Once printed, the canvases are coated in varnish for protection.
Like all art, every piece should be treated with care. We'd advise against hanging any art in a south-facing window and keeping fingers off the printed face will ensure it looks as good as new for years.
Our wooden stretchers have the deep box profile that people love and they come in a range of sizes.
As a rough guide, A3 is similar to a tabloid newspaper and our striking poster size is more than double this.

About your print on wood

Your print is mounted on a sturdy 1 centimetre-thick sheet of MDF. The image is printed on a 230gsm Archival matt paper, then laminated to create a clean, smooth finish, before being heat sealed to the wood block - which adds an extra layer of UV protection.

About your framed photograph

Our hand-finished resin prints are ideal for collectors or people who would like classic photographs to decorate their home or office. The three standard sizes we offer are 8x10 inches, 16x12 inches and 16x20 inches. This is the perfect size for display and mounting. By offering just three main sizes we are able to reduce costs by bulk buying materials, the savings on which we pass on to you.

About the Philip Townsend archive

In the 1960s renowned photographer Philip Townsend shot the Rolling Stones’ first ever photo sessions and took candid shots of the Beatles during their famous meetings with spiritual guru Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.
As well as capturing many of the most famous faces of the 1960s Philip Townsend’s striking black and white portraits helped document the decade which changed the course of history.
At the age of just 29 he quit photography and his fascinating archive lay undiscovered by a wider audience for almost 35 years until today.
thatcanvas is proud to be able to offer a selection of Philip Townsend’s coveted vintage prints through our website.
